Technology Settings in Master Control

Technology Settings option is available in User Groups, Users, SAP Systems. This option allows users to execute process files of type Transaction, BAPI/RFM, GUI Scripting and Data Extractor technology. Settings for Group and Users are considered as one as they are bound with each other. So from User and User Group, there will be one value for the setting as per the configuration done at both level and another value is configured at SAP System level.  If  Allow Transaction value is set to Block (unchecked) at any level - Group/User or SAP system, user will not be allowed to access  process files of type Transaction. The technology setting value should be allowed at both User/Group and SAP system for users to have access to that technology in Process Runner.

Please note that Transaction technology should be allowed at global level, only then technology settings done at Master Controls (Group/User and SAP System) will be considered for that user.

Case 1: Technology allowed to user

Let us take Transaction technology in this example.

Technology Settings applied at various levels:

Please make sure technology settings are enabled at global level.

In this conditions, user will be able to access Transaction technology. Transaction technology at Group and SAP System will be compared. Transaction technology will  be accessible by user as it is allowed at both levels (User/Group and SAP System).  User will be able to record and run transactions in Process Runner.

Case 2: Technology not accessible by user

In the following cases we will see how if any technology setting is unchecked at any control then that technology will be blocked for that user.

  • Technology Setting Disabled at Group Level
    • Global Level: Technology Settings enabled for Data Extractor
    • Group level = 'Allow Data Extractor' is unchecked.
    • User level = Settings as per Group.
    • SAP System = Allow Data Extractor is enabled

      • When any user belonging to this group and having 'Settings as per group' tries to access Data Extractor process file  in Process Runner, Data Extractor technology at Group and SAP System will be compared. Data Extractor technology will  not be accessible by user as it is not allowed at Group level. User will not be able to record and run Data Extractor process files in Process Runner and error message will be displayed to user.

To resolve this error, Data Extractor technology should be enabled at both levels (User/Group and SAP System).

  • Technology Setting Disabled at User Level
    • Global Level: Technology Settings enabled for GUI Script
    • Group level = All technology allowed.
    • User level = Settings as per Below. 'Allow GUI Script' is unchecked.
    • SAP System setting = Allow GUI Script is enabled

      • In this condition, GUI Script technology at User and SAP System will be compared. GUI Scripting technology will  not be accessible by user as it is not allowed at User level.  User will not be able to record and run GUI Scripting process files in Process Runner and error message will be displayed to user.

To resolve this error, GUI Script technology should be enabled at both levels (User/Group and SAP System).

  • Technology Setting Disabled at SAP System Level
    • Global Level: Technology Settings enabled for all technology
    • Group level = All technology allowed.
    • User level = Settings as per Below -> Allow Data Extraction enabled.
    • SAP System setting = Allow Data Extractor is unchecked.

      • In this condition, Data Extractor technology at User and SAP System will be compared. Data Extractor technology will not be accessible by user as it is not allowed at SAP System level. User will not be able to record and run Data Extractor process files in Process Runner and error message will be displayed to user.
